Frequently Asked Questions

What are the eligibility criteria to get a First Home Withdrawal?

To meet the eligibility criteria for a First Home Withdrawal, you must show that:

  • You have been in KiwiSaver (or a complying superannuation fund) for at least three years.
  • You have not made a KiwiSaver First Home Withdrawal to purchase a home or land before.
  • You intend to live in the house, or in the house you will build on the land you are purchasing.
  • You are a first-time buyer or have a determination from Kainga Ora to be in the same financial position as a first-time home buyer, and eligible for a ‘second-chance’ withdrawal

If you meet these criteria, you need to download and complete the application form, and then send it to Generate. You send it to us via email or upload it within the Generate app.

As part of the application process, you’ll need a conveyancing practitioner or lawyer to complete the required Letter of Undertaking as well as someone authorised to witness your statutory declaration (such as Justice of the Peace).

Once your application is received, we’ll keep you posted on its status.
