Can I choose not to increase my KiwiSaver contribution rate to 3.5%?

Yes. From 1 February 2026, you can apply to Inland Revenue (IRD) to temporarily opt out of the increase to the minimum KiwiSaver contribution rate.

If approved, your contribution rate will stay at 3% instead of increasing to 3.5% from 1 April 2026.

This application must be made directly with IRD via your myIR account.
