Frequently Asked Questions
What happens to my KiwiSaver if I move permanently overseas (not Australia)?
If you move permanently overseas (to a country other than Australia), you can apply to withdraw your KiwiSaver savings one year after leaving New Zealand. This is called a Permanent Emigration Withdrawal. You’ll need to provide evidence of permanent emigration, such as proof of overseas residence. Note: any Government contributions and tax credits you’ve received must be repaid to Inland Revenue.
Alternatively you can opt to keep your funds invested in KiwiSaver whilst living abroad, but you won’t be eligible for further Government contributions.
