The opt-out is temporary, not permanent.

When you apply, you can choose how long the temporary rate reduction lasts – from a 3-month (92 days) to a 12-month period.

If you want to continue opting out beyond your chosen period, you’ll need to reapply through myIR.

You can apply for the rate reduction as many times as you like.

Generate (or any KiwiSaver provider) can’t change or extend an exemption — all changes must be managed through Inland Revenue.

You can also choose to return to the higher contribution rate at any time by updating your details with IRD.
