Generate invests $10 million into innovative accounting platform Hnry | Investment facilitated by Icehouse Ventures, following earlier co-investment into Halter
Generate today announced a $10 million investment into Hnry, the fast-growing New Zealand accounting and tax platform built specifically for sole traders, contractors, and self-employed workers. The investment was facilitated by Icehouse Ventures, marking another successful collaboration between Generate and one of New Zealand’s leading venture capital investment firms.
This latest investment follows Generate’s previous backing of agricultural technology leader Halter, also facilitated by Icehouse Ventures, and reinforces Generate’s commitment to supporting high-growth New Zealand companies that are transforming industries through technology, innovation, and customer-centric solutions.

Supporting a New Zealand success story
Hnry has rapidly become the go-to financial platform for self-employed Kiwis, offering automated tax payments, invoicing, expense management, and compliance services in a simple subscription model. With the rise in independent and flexible work, Hnry’s customer base has expanded significantly across New Zealand and Australia.
Sam Goldwater, Chief Investment Officer at Generate, said: “Hnry is reshaping the experience for sole traders and self-employed people, a group that has historically been underserved by traditional accounting solutions. Fuelling future growth
The new capital will enable Hnry to accelerate product development, expand across New Zealand, Australia and the UK, and invest in technology to scale its financial automation platform.
Icehouse Ventures CEO remarked, “Generate’s investment is a wonderful milestone for Hnry and New Zealand. We are on a mission to have more Kiwis aligned to the success of New Zealand success stories like Hnry and Generate is playing a huge role in this.”
Hnry Co-founder and CEO James Fuller welcomed Generate and its members to the Hnry journey. “In addition to helping them spend less time on tax and admin, we want to deepen our relationship with sole traders. Having many of them as indirect investors in Hnry’s long-term mission via Generate’s funds is a great addition.”
